    Default What do you think?

I have the opportunity to take a position in a Christian store. I shop there on a regular basis, but as I have become aware of the erosion in the teachings of many Churches, I feel very torn about accepting the job. I don't feel right about working in a store that calls itself Christian and yet promotes books like "The Shack," and sells "The Oprah Winfrey Bible."

Am I over thinking it. I understand that people need to make their own decisions about what they will read, but I also feel there is a tremendous responsibility on the retailer not to lead people astray. Since the store is a chain, these decisions are made by someone else, but does that really matter?

    I would appreciate your feedback.

I would pray about it and wait on Him to lead you 2:

God may want you there for a very good reason. I have to say though, when I go into a Christian bookstore, I get a very real sense of spiritual warfare. I see a handful of books that are godly and biblical, sitting right next to a plethora of terrible apostasy, the Word corrupted by men's agenda and desires. I don't particularly find peace browsing those stores (until I find something I'm looking for, and leave with it )

But, God uses all things for good, and He may have a reason you need to be there. Listen for His prompting. He will clearly lead you, when you wait on Him. :)

Return, O Lord! How long? And have compassion on Your servants.
Oh, satisfy us early with Your mercy, That we may rejoice and be glad all our days!

I would go to God about this, and wait on him. I could advicse you in my own human knowledge, but you need to know HIS will for you, not mine.

That being said, pray to him about it tonight.

    Good advice Robert!
    Jeremiah 31:12

12Therefore they shall come and sing in the height of Zion, and shall flow together to the goodness of the LORD, for wheat, and for wine, and for oil, and for the young of the flock and of the herd: and their soul shall be as a watered garden; and they shall not sorrow any more at all.

Personally, I could never work in a shop that sold garbage that leads people into hell. But that's me and MY walk. Like the others have written above, you need to talk to God about what to do since you are His servant and He and He alone is the one to whom you will answer and the one who will always lead you in the correct way.

    Default Thanks

    Thanks for the input.

Fortunately even though I have just left a full time job, I am not in a position to "have to" take anything right away. This whole emerging church business has really become an issue in my life lately. And it was only recently that I found out it is a movement. I have read McLaren, Warren, etc., I read a lot of stuff, but had no idea of the "movement" underway. Now I can clearly see how an outreach ministry that I have been attending is moving in that direction. So, as you have suggested I need to pray on it and wait on the Lord. He has held me, and my kids, in his hand thus far.

I know that God has a way of using everything for his purposes. It is nice to have a place to ask this kind of question. Most people would look at me sideways and have no idea what I was talking about. I am learning to simply ask God and wait for the answer.

Then you have learned true wisdom.
