If you were to fit something like that and kept the key somewhere safe (possibly another problem) then once you had locked the doors you could happily go to sleep knowing that nobody could get in or out without your key.
If it would only be used at night, then you could do this and put the key where you and Matthew know where it is. Or even wear it on a chain or in a closable pocket in your pjs. Trying to think of places where Chris couldn't get it.....
Since Chris can't bend over easily, could you install a deadbolt that goes into the floor? Although you don't want him falling over trying to work it, either. hmmm
