In a news article today the US Centcom commander Gen. David Petraeus made the comment that the U.A.E. had the stronger air force over Iran. This comment was made at a conference in Bahrain in which the US commander is working to help Western allies to remain united in the region to curb the gorwing threat of Iran's nuclear weapons program. The YNetNews reported:
The United Arab Emirates, a key US ally in the Persian Gulf, has the capability to overpower Iran's Air Force, US Centcom commander Gen. David Petraeus said last week. Speaking at a conference in Bahrain organized by the International Institute for Strategic Studies, the American general said, "The Emirati Air Force itself could take out the entire Iranian Air Force, I believe, given that it's got...somewhere around 70 Block 60 F-16 fighters, which are better than the US F-16 fighters."
Further:
Petraeus, who is responsible for overseeing the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq and security efforts throughout the region, called on the region's countries to remain united in order to curb Iran's nuclear ambitions. In light of the growing Iranian threat, said the general, the US has increased its participation in joint military drills held in the Middle East.
With the growing threat of a nuclear Iran, the US and it's allies are working harder together to find ways to counter the Iranian nuisance, keeping the region stable and secure. With a majority of the world's oil coming out of the Middle East region, stability and calm in such a tension filled region is very critical. The US is working will allies to help provider arms, equipment, and technology to help keep the Iranian regime in Tehran at arm's length. After the recent testing of the Sajjil-2 missile earlier this week, cooperation between the West and it's allies in the Middle East has become more important than ever.
Another article came out today where a US ambassador claimed that Iran was continuing to arm and help the Taliban as it fights against Western forces in the Afghanistan. The Iran Focus website reported:
Karl Eikenberry, a former commanding general in Afghanistan, said parts of the regime had transcended sectarian divisions within Islam to provide support for fundamentalist groups fighting Western forces in Afghanistan. "Iran or elements within Iran have provided training assistance and some weapons to the Taliban," said Mr Eikenberry. "General Petraeus has reviewed these reports and said that the scope of Iranian support is nothing on the level that was given previously by Iran to various terrorist elements in Iraq. Still, the reports about this kind of low-level support and periodic co-operation between elements in Iran and militant extremist Taliban are disturbing and do not show good faith by Afghanistan's neighbour to the West."
The article went on to summarize the fact that Iran is concerned about a strong Western supporting government on it's eastern border should the Western forces obtain a victory. So, the Iranians have basically adopted a fence-riding role of providing assistance to both the terrorist elements and the Taliban. The article went into further details of the sticky issue and explained how this was playing out:
Iran's Shia Muslim regime's has long been suspicious of the extremist Sunni Taliban and Tehran co-operated with the US-led effort to overthrow the movement in 2001. But a Western official involved in Iran policy-making said yesterday that Iranian officials were now playing both sides of the Afghan conflict to ensure that the Western-backed Kabul government remained weak. "Afghanistan should be an area of common interest between Britain and Iran because they don't want an extremist Sunni government on their border," an official said. "But Afghanistan, like Iraq, is in its backyard and Tehran just does not want a Western victory or a strong pro-Western government on its eastern flank. It is now playing two roles there, assisting the insurgency even as it provides aid."
With the long history of conflict and deception in the region, it is no wonder that there is alot of mutual distrust between essentially all parties in the Middle East. Many wars and fatalities have occured because of the constant fighting and plotting, much of it being driven by the fanatical regime in Iran who is like an octopus that has it's tentacles in just about every country in the Midddle East. The simple truth is that the Iranians can't be trusted and that the world community or Israel is going to take a hardline approach militarily to stop the regime in Tehran from acquiring nuclear weapons, if they haven't already obtained them. Let us pray that if it is Israel, which is likely to be the case, that God supernaturally protects them as they carrry out such an important mission.
In other news a distrubing, yet nothing new, report came out that the incoming EU president declared that his country Spain would work towards a Palestinian state by 2010. This news article came from the Jerusalem Post and quoted Spanish FM Miguel Moratinos:
Spanish Foreign Minister Miguel Angel Moratinos on Friday said that as incoming European Union president, his country will work towards the establishment of a Palestinian state by 2010. "My idea, and my dream, and my engagement, is to work for having in 2010, finally, a Palestinian state that could live in peace and security with Israel," Moratinos was quoted by AFP as telling reporters in Brussels. The Spanish foreign minister stressed that a Palestinian state could only be established through negotiation. "It has to be done through negotiation, it has to be done by agreement, it has to be done through international community recognition," he reportedly said.
We can easily see that with the closing of 2009 that 2010 will bring the continued international pressure and push for the creation of a Palestinian state within the current borders of Israel. The world community believes that a Palestinian state will bring about the "peace and safety", but the truth of the matter is that nothing could be further from the truth. The creation of a Palestinian state within the current borders of Israel will bring about nothing but more conflict, chaos, and misery. With the situation in Iran reaching a climax with regards to the Iranian nuclear program, I think we will see a delay in the creation of a Palestinian state as Israel ends up igniting a fire in the Middle East with military attacks against Iran. The Israelis will have no choice but to make the military move as anti-semitism continues to rise not just in the Middle East, but just about everywhere in the world. We are seeing this with acts of anti-semitism in the UN, in Germany, in the Middle East, and pretty much all over the world.
This military move by Israel could set the prophetic stage for the fulfillments of Bible prophecy that could lead us towards Psalm 83, Isaiah 17, and finally Ezekiel 38-39. With storm clouds continuing to converge on the Middle East, it is possible that things will heat up really fast. The best thing we can do at this time is to pray for Israel and for God's will to be done on Earth, as it is done in Heaven. The coming months could prove to be prophetic, or they may not, as Iran may very well reach the nuclear goals. Keep looking up, your redemption is drawing nigh.
God bless.
