In bible prophecy, according to most biblical scholars, we're told that a revived Roman empire will rise in the last days. From within this empire, the greatest evil in human form the world will ever know will ascend to a position of near absolute global power. This man is commonly referred to as the Antichrist. And this empire of Antichrist? This last global empire before the visible, physical, bodily return of Christ occurs at the Battle of Armageddon? It will have at its disposal a powerful military force which the Antichrist will masterfully utilize as needed to pursue his goals. He will be brilliantly successful in his efforts.
Daniel 7:23:
Thus he said, The fourth beast shall be the fourth kingdom upon earth, which shall be diverse from all kingdoms, and shall devour the whole earth, and shall tread it down, and break it in pieces.
Many today believe the European Union (EU) or a variation of thereof is that revived Roman empire in the making. Bearing that in mind, the following is very interesting as we consider global trends indicating the return of Jesus Christ is drawing near.
Fox News is reporting the following, in part (emphasis added mine):
European Union nations must increasingly pool their military resources, especially as individual members keep trimming their budgets and the U.S reshapes its military strategy to focus on regions beyond Europe, the bloc's top defense officials said Tuesday.
"We want to tackle the challenges we face by doing more together and doing it better, by looking for greater efficiencies and value for money (and) by pooling and sharing of military capabilities," EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton said.
"This is the only pragmatic way forward given the growing demand for the European Union to become a more capable, coherent and strategic global actor," said Ashton, who is also responsible for the bloc's security policy.
Will the European Union, a bloc consisting of 27 member nations, become the beastly power the prophet Daniel foresaw devouring "the whole earth?" Many scoff at the notion, the present EU being viewed by many as an impotent, passive power unwilling to do anything more than talk a mean game of international diplomacy, its inability to rein in the Iranian nuclear program being a prime example. But that could change and I believe it will. All that's needed is the right kind of leadership to emerge. The prophesied Antichrist will fit the bill. Under his leadership, the revived Roman empire will be more capable, coherent and strategic as a global actor than anyone reading the news of our world today from a secular worldview can possibly imagine.
