Tim Tebow: Hated Without a Cause
By Todd Strandberg
I am no fan of professional sports. I've never been able to understand why people enjoy sitting around while watching strangers fight over a ball or try to hit one with a stick. But since I follow the news rather closely, I couldn't help but notice the stories generated by Tim Tebow, who plays for the Denver Broncos.
Tebow has gotten under the skin of the liberal media and other atheist groups, making himself "the poster boy for Christianity." Tebow accomplished this task by praying on the field after a win, putting Bible verses on his eye black during games, and starring in an anti-abortion ad during the Super Bowl.
Even his background is enough to make the most passive atheists grit their teeth. Tim Tebow was born in the Philippines to Baptist missionaries. He and his four siblings were homeschooled by their mother, who worked to instill the family's Christian beliefs along the way. While pregnant with him, his mother suffered a dysentery infection. Drugs used to treat her caused a severe placental abruption. Doctors feared a stillbirth and recommended an abortion to save her life. Because of his parents' pro-life stance, they refused have one. Today, Tebow is a walking example of God's grace.
Tim Tebow's success on the field has earned him the undying hatred of many people. Here are three examples of the bias against him:
Salem witches cast spells on Tim Tebow to ensure he would lose the playoff game. The witches made their spell on Friday the 13th to maximize demonic powers to ensure a victory for their team.
Jimmy Fallon channeled his David Bowie to sing a parody of the song "Space Oddity" to mock Tebow: "This is Jesus Christ to Tim Tebow, please leave me alone … don't you know my day of rest is Sunday? And I'm sick of watching all these Broncos games. I hear you play New England next week. Dude …. You're on your own. Brady is too good and I've got better things to do."
Comedian Bill Maher was downright offensive with his remarks against Tebow. After the Broncos lost to Buffalo , he tweeted the following remark. "Wow, Jesus just [expletive] Tim Tebow bad! And on Xmas Eve! Somewhere in hell Satan is Tebowing, saying to Hitler, 'Hey, Buffalo's killing them.'"
The sad truth for the God haters is that the public overwhelmingly approves of a God-fearing quarterback. In a poll last month, Tebow was voted the favorite active pro athlete. He has generated huge ratings. The Broncos-Steelers game had a 25.9 overnight Nielsen rating, making it the highest-rated NFL wildcard game since 1988. Tebow's famous eighty-yard touchdown pass on the first play of overtime resulted in a record 9,420 tweets per second. According to Twitter, It was the most frenzied response for any sporting event.
It's easy to understand why Tebow would stand out from the herd. Most pro athletes are spoiled brats, making vast amounts of money and blowing their wealth on riotous living. Before the final game with the Broncos, New England Patriots' tight end Rob Gronkowski hung out with porn star Bibi Jones. Last week, Steelers' quarterback Ben Roethlisberger had his lawyers settle a rape charge for an undisclosed amount of money.
The unnatural hatred that has been aimed at Tebow offers strong evidence for biblical truth. Darkness can only exist if there is a total absence of light. Even the most trivial demonstration of Christian faith burns the eyes of the kingdom of darkness. Since I delight in seeing the liberal media in distress, I wish Tebow a long career.
"If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before [it hated] you. If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you. Remember the word that I said unto you, the servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also. But all these things will they do unto you for my name's sake, because they know not him that sent me. If I had not come and spoken unto them, they had not had sin: but now they have no cloke for their sin. He that hateth me hateth my Father also. If I had not done among them the works which none other man did, they had not had sin: but now have they both seen and hated both me and my Father. But [this cometh to pass], that the word might be fulfilled that is written in their law, They hated me without a cause" (John 15:18-25).
