The Microchip Mandate

Revelation 13:16-17: And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.
As we see in scripture above, the prophesied Antichrist's government is going to require all mankind to receive a mark in the right hand or forehead in order to buy or sell in the prophetic future. Is there any evidence in the news of our world today that may be a harbinger of things to come where what is commonly referred to as the mark of the beast is concerned? I certainly believe so.
What is the mark of the beast going to be?
For years now I have watched with great attention the expansion of interest governments around the world, as well as many private industries, businesses and the medical community, have shown in utilizing RFID microchip technology for identification, security, medical and record keeping purposes all the while bearing in mind Revelation 13:16-17. This is especially true where the use of implantable RFID microchip technologies such as PositiveID Corporation's VeriChip are concerned.
Before getting into some current news on implantable microchip technologies and the increased role microchips are almost certainly going to be playing in our daily lives in the near future, let's look at what the word 'mark' as used in Revelation 13:16-17 means.
The word 'mark' in the original Greek is charagma {khar'-ag-mah}, which is defined as:
1) a stamp, an imprinted mark
a) of the mark stamped on the forehead or the right hand as the badge of the followers of the Antichrist
b) the mark branded upon horses
2) thing carved, sculpture, graven work
a) of idolatrous images
Charagma {khar'-ag-mah} comes from the same root word as charax {khar'-ax}, which comes from the word charasso (to sharpen to a point, akin to grapho through the idea of scratching).
Grapho {graf'-o} is defined as:
1) to write, with reference to the form of the letters
a) to delineate (or form) letters on a tablet, parchment, paper, or other material
2) to write, with reference to the contents of the writing
a) to express in written characters
b) to commit to writing (things not to be forgotten), write down, record
c) used of those things which stand written in the sacred books (of the OT)
d) to write to one, i.e. by writing (in a written epistle) to give information, directions
3) to fill with writing
4) to draw up in writing, compose
When we look at the above in totality, it seems the mark of the beast is likely to involve something sharpened to a point, a scratching or breaking of skin, and the recording of information.
A tattoo of some sort can't be dismissed as a mark of the beast possibility, particularly one using RFID ink like that used by SOMARK Innovations. RFID Journal describes SOMARK's tattoo technology as "a permanent ink tattoo that relies on radio frequency waves to read and render unique identification numbers."
Another possibility, as I referred to earlier, is an implantable RFID microchip like PositiveID Corporation's VeriChip (or a facsimile thereof). The following is a description of PositiveID Corporation's product line as presented on their site (emphasis added mine):
PositiveID Corporation was formed on November 10, 2009 through the merger of VeriChip Corporation and Steel Vault Corporation. PositiveID provides unique health and security identification tools to protect consumers and businesses.

HealthID focuses on bringing innovative health solutions to consumers, animals and businesses based on the company's intellectual property. Through its ID Security segment, the company offers identity theft protection and related services including credit monitoring and reporting through its NationalCreditReport.com website.
An integral part of the foundation of PositiveID is its radio-frequency identification (RFID) implantable microchip for patient identification, the VeriChip. The company's RFID microchip traces back to the events of September 11, 2001, when New York firemen wrote their badge ID numbers on their chests in case they were found injured or unconscious. It was evident there was a serious need for personal information in emergency situations and the product, modeled after a similar microchip used in pets, evolved from there. The company received FDA clearance for the microchip in October 2004.
In the aftermath of September 11th, many people were interested in getting my opinion on whether the horrors of that day held any prophetic significance. To that end, long before PositiveID Corp. acknowledged that September 11 played a role in their product line and the Food and Drug Administration approving it for use in humans, I wrote a commentary addressing my suspicions on the topic.
In the commentary, I indicated my belief that September 11th, while not described in any passage of Scripture I was aware of, was a transforming event for mankind - one that time may eventually reveal jumpstarted the world on its trek toward the fulfillment of bible prophecy, including the advent of the Antichrist. If I were to rewrite that commentary today, I'd be remiss not to point out the role 9/11 may have had in the mark of the beast becoming a reality.
Before I get into current events and how they're leading us closer to the mark of the beast, I want to be very clear in stating that I hold no suspicions whatsoever that any of the companies named above are acting maliciously, villainously trying to create a technology for the Antichrist to use against us all. In a 2006 commentary on the topic of the implantable RFID microchip, I quoted Frank Work, Alberta Canada's privacy commissioner. I think what he said then still applies:
"Worried or scared, you know that if there is an advantage to it, either economic or medical, someone is going to perfect it," Work said. "Someone is going to bring it to a point where it can be used in the near future."
"We'll do it in a well-intentioned way, wanting to look after people. But like with anything, as soon as you bring in the well-intentioned application, someone will figure out the evil application."
And there you have it, the danger of the implantable RFID microchip in a nutshell!
As soon as you introduce a well-intentioned application into mainstream society that has a potentially dark side in the wrong hands, someone evil enough to exploit it for their gain will do so! And the person who may well figure out how to use this technology wickedly? None other than the prophesied Antichrist! Time will tell but it's easy to see, from my perspective, that the potential for the mark of the beast to be implemented in the not-too-distant future is no longer the stuff of science fiction.
Current events of interest
We all know the issue of illegal immigration here in the United States is a concern as well as a hot political topic, but of far greater concern? A requirement to have each and every worker in the United States, even legal citizens, possess a biometric ID card to earn a living is currently under discussion. The following is an excerpt from a Wall Street journal article dated 3-9-10:
Lawmakers working to craft a new comprehensive immigration bill have settled on a way to prevent employers from hiring illegal immigrants: a national biometric identification card all American workers would eventually be required to obtain.
Under the potentially controversial plan still taking shape in the Senate, all legal U.S. workers, including citizens and immigrants, would be issued an ID card with embedded information, such as fingerprints, to tie the card to the worker.
This is only a "potentially controversial plan" if one has no reservations to opening the door to a Big Brother form of government, in my humble opinion.
Make no mistake about it, the governments of our world, all of them, are leading us into a total surveillance society at warp speed as the phrase "microchips compulsory for all" appearing in a news headline bears witness to. (KEYWORD: compulsory)
A Guardian article entitled "Crackdown on dangerous dogs to make microchips compulsory for all" reads as follows, in part:
All dogs are to be compulsorily microchipped so that their owners can be more easily traced under a crackdown on dangerous dogs to be unveiled today.
And...
Under the scheme a microchip the size of a grain of rice is injected under the skin of the dog between its shoulder blades. The chip contains a unique code number, the dog's name, age, breed and health as well as the owner's name, address and phone number. When the chip is "read" by a handheld scanner the code number is revealed and the details can be checked on a national database.
The use of the word scheme above is appropriate to say the least. I can almost hear Satan giggling at the thought of the British government ordering all of its citizenry to microchip their canines. And why? Because bible prophecy tells us he has nothing less in mind for all of humanity! All he's waiting for is the appointed time to whip that scheme out! And that dreadful time prophesied in God's Word? It may be closer than many imagine possible because they're too busy watching 200 channels of cable television, tweeting, texting, trying to keep up with the guy next door and listening to 'feel good' sermons on Sunday mornings to have so much as a clue as to what is going on right in front of their eyes demonstrating that bible prophecy is on its way to fulfillment, potentially very soon.
Keep looking up, Christians! Surely our redemption draweth night but, while we wait, don't forget to keep your eyes open concerning what's going on around you, if not for yourself for all those you know and love whose eternal destiny is an unknown. Even if you get some eye rolls, this is a prime time for us to be using current events to raise awareness of the parallels, even potential parallels, between current events and bible prophecy. If we give the lost around us nothing more than a second's pause to consider their need to come to faith in Christ, a seed may be planted that will spring to life in due season. The hour is late and our actions need to reflect that.
