Is Obama the Antichrist?
By Chris Schang
One of the most often asked Bible prophecy questions is whether United States President Barack Hussein Obama is the biblical Antichrist? In my honest opinion the answer is a resounding NO. Let me explain.
Many people often suggest that Obama could be the Antichrist foretold in the Bible because of the sudden political rise Obama made from an almost unknown Chicago politician to eventual President of the United States. This meteoric rise on the world stage is exactly as many suspect will happen with the future Antichrist - the man of sin or the beast. Many have speculated that the biblical Antichrist is alive and well in the world today and is simply waiting for his opportunity to present himself as mankind's savior. The belief is that when the world hits a major crisis that the man who will be the Antichrist will step out of the shadows and solve all the world's troubles.
While it is true that Barack Hussein Obama did make a startling rise from practically unknown politician to heading the world's lone superpower, Obama's feat is not that unusual. Many individuals over the years have made similar political "leaps and bounds" in order to take hold of offices of high power. One such individual is Mahmoud Ahmadinejad who as the mayor of Tehran took Iran by storm by winning the Iranian presidential elections. Since that time Ahmadinejad has made numerous threats of "wiping Israel off the map" and making other statements like the "imminent collapse of Israel" was just a matter of time. All of these statements and threats are done in the spirit of antichrist, yet this does not make him the Antichrist. While the spirit of antichrist is alive and well in the world, THE ANTICHRIST has yet to make his appearance.
Obama on the other hand is an extremely liberal politician who has supported gay marriage rights (remeber sodom and gomorrah), supported extreme late abortion (to the point of killing babies born in botched abortions), and has promoted other socialist type reforms to the American population despite them being against the will of a majority of Americans. While Obama's political stances and behavior is surely in the spirit of antichrist according to God's word, I do not believe that Obama is the foretold antichrist of the end times. If anything, he could simply be a forerunner or the coming man of lawlessness. Just as Jesus had John the Baptist as his forerunner, it is not outside the realm of possibility that the biblical Antichrist may have a forerunner of his own.
The Bible states that the coming Antichrist of the end times will be a man from within the geographical area of those who "destroyed the city and temple". This of course refers to the destruction of the city of Jerusalem and the Second Temple in 70AD. History records that the people who destoryed the city and temple where none other than the Romans of Western Europe. So, by this standard and historical facts we should expect to see the Antichrist rised from the territory that occupies Western Europe. The Bible foretells this with the following scriptures:
Dan 9:26 And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof [shall be] with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.
In today's Bible prophecy community there is some debate about the origin of the Antichrist, but the truth is that there should not be any confusion about this issue. Yet despite this many fad theories have sprung up as of late trying indicate that the Antichrist will come from the Eastern Europe area. Proponents of this view like to cite the view that the Roman empire was once divided into two "legs" with one focused in Rome to the West, and the other focused in Constantinople in the East. While it is true that the Roman Empire consisted of two different "legs" it is noteworthy that the Eastern leg did not even appear on the scene in world affairs until about 600 years after the destruction of the city and temple. The people who "destroyed the city and temple" where none other than the Western Europeans headquartered in Rome. This is just one of the many reasons why the Eastern leg theory of the Antichrist's origin doesn't hold any water.
Another favorite argument of Eastern leg Antichrist supporters is the theory that the Roman legion that supposedly destroyed the city and temple was made up of Assyrian soldiers so that is proof that the Antichrist will be Assyrian and thus from the East. This logic is faulty as well. First of all, the Ceasar, generals, officiers, and majority of the soldiers involved in the destruction of the city and temple where Roman. The orders to destroy the city and temple where also given by the Roman authorities. This sort of theology is truly watered down theology that takes what is a crystal clear hint for people left behind to know where to look for Antichrist and yet turns it around to mean practically anything. If there were people of African or Chinese decent involved in the legions, then under this faulty theology we could look for the Antichrist to come from Africa and/or China in addition to every other ethnic region. This is truly watered down theology that takes what should be clear to the average reader and does a great disservice to the written word of God.
So as we can see from this article, the Antichrist will have his origins in the Western European region. The Antichrist is in fact probably alive today and waiting for the ideal conditions to develop before stepping out of the shadows for his meteoric rise on the world stage. While Barack Hussein Obama is a type of antichrist, it is my opinion that he is not the foretold biblical Antichrist that was foretold in Daniel. The Antichrist is very likely now waiting in the wings to make his appearance.
